Comments on the artwork
A piece set apart by its stylistic difference, this artwork takes a limited gamut and creates a seamless experience while maintaining its trademark flair. While over-the-top repetition of body parts, primarily hands, are common throughout the work, an eye as a center subject is one mostly unseen and carries a more potent and tragic connotation. Severed hands force an opening at the cost of being cleanly pierced through yet the scene illustrated within isn’t one of panic and frenzy, it contains smooth and flowing textures, conscious volumes, and an unaffected gleaming eye in place of a pearl. What is instead conveyed is a more desperate message, one of innocence and traumatization, blatantly forced to see certain plight despite being but an eyes first gaze upon the world. If not a sincere take on what can hide within ones eyes this cutesy neo-Japanese mollusk makes great addition to this worked canvas.
